Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway

With 85 years of Steam Railway Heritage set against the backdrop of some of Kent’s most picturesque countryside, this is what makes this journey on the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway a totally unique experience.

 

We make our journey to the Cinque Port town of Hythe where we board the one-third full size steam locomotive where we then travel to Dungeness; a National Nature Reserve and classified as Britain’s only desert. On arrival, at Hythe Station, purchase any refreshments from the vintage tea room and get your cameras ready for the journey.

 

Once at Dungeness we rejoin the coach where we take you into the nearby town of Rye. Here there will be an opportunity for you to purchase lunch and wander the cobbled lanes.

 

A medieval citadel huddled against invaders and the sea, Rye reveals its history gently. Today it’s home to a myriad of art, curiosities and cosy pubs, as well as modern boutique hotels and contemporary restaurants serving the best Sussex has to offer, from land and sea. Built on smuggled secrets and timeless tales, Rye has nooks and crannies to explore and distant views across Romney Marsh to ponder.
